The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey 2026 Summer Internship Program

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) is a dynamic organization that plays a pivotal role in shaping our region's transportation infrastructure.  PANYNJ oversees major airports, seaports, bridges, tunnels, and transportation hubs, contributing significantly to the economic vitality of the New York metropolitan area. Offering a diverse range of opportunities for student internships, the Port Authority provides a unique platform to kickstart a career in fields such as engineering, finance, operations, and more. This is a chance to contribute to work that shapes the future of the NY/NJ region. 

  • Program Dates: Thursday, May 28 – Friday, August 21, 2026.  Five days/week at 7.25 hours/day. Some roles may offer hybrid scheduling. 

  • Compensation: Hourly wages are $18.07 to $30.31, depending on the department. 

  • Departments: Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Finance, Sustainability, Communications, Operations, Data Analytics, Technology, Project Management, Planning, Customer Experience, Security, and more. 

  • Eligibility: 
    • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of internship (cannot graduate before or during Summer 2026). 
    • Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is accepted for eligible international students. 

  • How to Apply: All internship applications are posted on the Port Authority Careers site. Positions will also appear on Handshake for participating schools. Students may apply to multiple roles. Students should keep an eye on the Careers site for additional openings (newer openings will appear toward the top on the first page).   

  • Application Deadline: Sunday, January 4, 2026 

AI Ventures Accelerator

The AI Ventures Accelerator is a completely free, 12-week program (January-March 2026) that helps teams of young women ages 19-24 turn their ideas into investor-ready AI ventures. The top 10 teams will win $10,000 in equity-free seed funding.

What makes this unique:

  • No coding or AI experience required - but teams who bring this will have an advantage

  • Completely free—no hidden fees

  • Expert mentorship from industry leaders

  • Real funding opportunities ($100,000 total for top teams)

  • Flexible 10-15 hours/week commitment

We're currently accepting applications from young women in the US, India, Mexico, and Nigeria, with a deadline of December 31, 2025.

CUNY Tech Prep

This year, we're opening the application earlier (Dec 2025) so you can get yours in before finals! However, we will be reviewing applications starting in the early Spring which is when we move applicants along our process on a rolling basis, but generally: *** the sooner you apply, the sooner you may have a chance to interview with us!***

Summer interns work on exciting projects in one of NYCEDC’s many dynamic departments. They also participate in training programs, networking events, and other professional development opportunities over the course of the program.
